Kansas State University’s foothold at the forefront of research is only getting stronger, and the world is beginning to take notice. Recently, the Blue Ribbon Study Panel on Biodefense described the university as the “Silicon Valley of biodefense,” recognizing our leadership in animal health, biosciences and food safety research.

The title may be new, but the history is long. K-State maintains many valuable research collaborations and academic connections devoted to its goal of becoming a Top 50 public research university by 2025. Examples are plentiful throughout the university, from the Biosecurity Research Institute's infectious disease research to the Department of Homeland Security's Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases. K-State partnerships continue to keep the nation safe.

It doesn’t stop with disease prevention and treatment. We’re always looking for new questions to ask and new solutions to uncover. In fact, we dedicate more than $188 million annually in research expenditures. The K-State research arm extends far and wide — whether we’re preserving the prairie or decoding air particles, each and every project is a puzzle piece in our goal to create a better, safer world.

The “Silicon Valley of biodefense” is a catchy title we’ll wear with pride, but it might be more accurate to say, “the leader in putting people first.” After all, that’s the #WildcatWay.
